We’re a fiber artist and metal craftsman owned art/craft supply business located on Vancouver Island. Guided by our lived realities as makers ourselves, we supply to our fellow makers with a focus on sustainability and innovation. Unfettered carries a wide range of recycled, repurposed, and up-cycled fiber for macrame, weaving, crochet, knitting, embroidery, stitching, and needle punch. Our collections of recycled cotton cord, yarn, and t-shirt yarn are exclusive to our business. They are part of a closed production loop where scrapped pre-consumer textile waste is collected, colour-sorted, then turned into cord. This recycling process means that no excess dyes are used to create uniform colours: instead, colours are created with a blending process that often leaves the visible little freckles that give our cord its unique character.
Unfettered’s most innovative place is undeniably our metal shop. It’s here that we create handmade metal solutions for creative problems that we didn’t always know existed. We’ve built our handcrafted metal products by listening to our customers’ needs. Oversized and XL metal hoops, rings, rectangles, and shapes of all sort are one of our speciality. We offer powder coating in 30 different colours as well. These giant hoops are used for crochet installations, looms, Lyras, furniture, bird swings, hammocks, art installations, mirrors, barbecues, and just about anything else you can think of. Because we make all of our metal in-house, we’re open to to custom requests too (the wackier, the better!). Our metal offerings are growing in the direction of homewares as well. We make the most interesting registers, exhaust fan covers, and vent covers you’ll ever find–promise. And our toilet paper roll holders are pretty unforgettable too.
