One of the first fair trade organizations in the world, SERRV International began its mission in 1949 after World War II by helping displaced European refugees trade their handcrafts for income. Now, over 75 years later, SERRV continues to work in solidarity with marginalized artisans and farmers around the world through the purchase of their beautiful handicrafts and delicious foods. As a co-founder of the World Fair Trade Organization and the Fair Trade Federation, we operate under Fair Trade principles, and hold our partners to the same standards.
SERRV provides steady, fair income and safe, empowering working conditions built on respectful, long-term relationships and environmental stewardship to 5,000 artisans in over 20 countries.
Our women-led organization does business differently. We pay 50% of the total cost of the handcrafts up front to help artisans pay for raw materials and living expenses, and the remaining 50% when the items ship—assuming all risk for the product once it leaves their hands. We also cover shipping and import costs, customs fees, and tariffs.
