Hi, I’m Danielle — founder of Love by Evelyn + Co, a greeting card company inspired by my grandparents and rooted in love, joy, and nostalgia.

At its heart, Love by Evelyn + Co is more than a creative outlet — it’s a way of keeping the memory of my late grandparents, Evelyn and Irving Newsome, alive. Their traditions, stories, and everyday moments of love remain the inspiration behind everything I create.

I grew up on Long Island, New York, in the early 1980s. Much of my childhood revolved around time spent with my grandparents until they retired and moved to Florida in 1989. They weren’t just my grandparents — they were my home base. A steady, loving presence that gave me support, security, and happiness that carried into adulthood.

My grandfather was a motorman for New York City Transit, and my grandmother worked at General Motors. Both were humble, hardworking people who lived simply but left a lasting impact. My grandfather taught me how to change the oil in a car, water the lawn just right, and sneak Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and Hydrox cookies when no one was looking.

My grandmother taught me resilience, stability, and grace. She showed me the importance of family and how to show up for the people you love, no matter what. She was also a talented artist — creating beautiful ceramics, pottery, and paintings — and had a fabulous eye for interior decorating.

When my grandmother passed away in May 2024, ten years after my grandfather, it felt like I lost the last piece of my childhood. She was my best friend. I found myself searching for a way to process my grief, and instinctively, I picked up a pen and started drawing.

At first, it was small things: plants, trains, colors that reminded me of them, and most of all, Christmas memories from their home. The smell of Folger’s coffee, the twinkle of holiday lights, the simple magic that filled their house during the holidays.

That creative spark became something bigger. I realized I wasn’t just drawing for myself — I was telling a story. I was capturing love, nostalgia, and memory in a way that others could connect with.

After 18 years of working as a graphic designer in the corporate world, I decided it was time to pursue something truly meaningful. I rebranded my greeting card company, drawing inspiration from everything my grandparents taught me about love, family, and everyday magic.

And just as importantly, I created this company for my daughter — so she can see what it looks like to build something rooted in love and purpose, and so she can carry those family traditions forward in her own way.

Each card I create reflects the love I was lucky enough to grow up with. My hope is that when someone sends a Love by Evelyn + Co card, it carries that same spirit of warmth, nostalgia, and connection forward into someone else’s life.
