Hi! I’m Angela McFarland, an artist from Kansas City, Missouri. I work in kiln-formed glass and care deeply about human rights, protecting our environment, and safeguarding our democracy.
My work is inspired by my love of the natural world, especially water. Flowing water shows up frequently in my work, and glass is a wonderful medium to work in, because its luminosity and depth beautifully echo the calm, peaceful feeling of being near water.
I create each piece by firing small bits of transparent and opaque glass until they melt together into a single form, usually at around 1500°. I often fire a piece multiple times as I add surface details. Once the firing is complete, I use diamond cold-working tools to refine the form until it feels right.
I create a range of work, including wall pieces, free-standing sculptures, glass tables, and dishes/bowls/platters.
